The palmetto state

It always comes down to that magical 2 week mark- that's when the body starts to catch up with all of the punishment and exhaustion its been putting up with. Today, like clockwork, I got my legs and hammered out a solid 100 miles without losing my breath. I haven't been in this kind of shape since I was on the AT. It's a good feeling.

The zero day I took yesterday was key. Thanks to Dennis Sohns of Moncks Corner, SC for giving me a bed to sleep in while the rain passed.

I'm only a stones throw away from the Georgia state line right now in Allendale, SC. I've forgotten how flat is here, the landscape brings back a lot of memories.

I guess I've got about 850 miles behind me. It's hard to believe, but at the same time, the sense of continuity from here to there is very real; a feeling that I can remember every inch in between.

I love hearing from everyone. Thanks for all of the good wishes and encouragement along the way.

Ryan , KC's dad here. Ive heard of young native americans going on Vision quests and the whole right of passage into manhood , but my favorite part is where the young man takes on a totem or animal spirit guide . Some go with wolves and bears and of course the hawk. Yours may be the first Peacock Quest . Maybe when you get a bit further on you could sleep next to a eagle or gator , they make for a better guardian animal . Alot of native americans would get a tatoo of their guardian animal , and a peacock just aint gonna cut it.
